Degradation and recyclability of Plastics

Plastic is a fantastic material but as many other materials it ages. How can you estimate a shelf life, what are the mechanisms and how can you prevent/delay them to extend shelf life in the perspective of circular economy?

Plastic is one of the biggest innovations ever, and is used for a wide range of products, from very simple to complex and amazing products. The material “plastic” is typically based upon remnants from the production of fossil fuels.

Plastic has also entered the political arena, among others for appearing at places unwanted as micro plastic in food and as pollution in oceans. Locally, the Danish government has presented a national plastic action plan, “Plastic without waste” in 2018.

A more sustainable behavior is required and considerations on how to improve the circular economy are relevant. This requires knowledge to understand opportunities and limitations in for example recycling. At the workshop a list experts from the academic world, suppliers, consultants and the manufacturing industry will handle relevant scientific topics in this context.
