INNOVATION and SPECIALISATION: The Story of Shipbuilding in Finland
Professor Bruce Peter (The Glasgow School of Art), Kalle Id (Helsinki)
In celebration of the centenary of Finnish independence and of Finland’s unique and extensive contributions to modern merchant ship design, we present two lectures about the history of Finnish shipbuilding by the maritime historians Kalle Id and Bruce Peter. These relate to their research for a new book on the history of Finnish shipbuilding which focuses on innovative design and construction techniques as key drivers for the international success of the industry.
The meeting is the last in 2017 and will therefore be our traditional “Christmas meeting”, for which reason the traditional sandwiches and soft drinks will be replaced by æbleskiver and gløgg.
