Thermal analysis of polymers

Thermal analysis of polymers traditionally deals with investigation of thermal transitions like glass transition (Tg), crystallization (Tc) and melting (Tm) phenomena as well as of thermal resistance of polymeric materials. As such a wealth of important polymer properties and polymer thermal behavior can be mapped. This is typically performed by use of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). However, the thermal analysis concept can be extended to also predict lifetime of polymers or to provide information on complex polymer compositions.
Today’s programme intends to elucidate a range of these opportunities by presentations from a number of specialists that have detailed knowledge on various thermal analytical techniques. Especially important is the message that synergistic combinations of various techniques in many cases are beneficial in painting a more complete or even full picture of the faith of polymer materials over time.
